Over $3.5 Million invested directly into the Six Nations Community
OHSWEKEN, ON – September 16, 2016 – The newly formed Six Nations of the Grand River Economic Development Trust (EDT) will invest just over $3.5 Million dollars into the Six Nations Community in its inaugural year. These funds were made possible by the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation’s (SNGRDC) net-free cash flow for all periods prior to March 31, 2016. A total of 31 projects have been approved for 2016 Community Investment by the EDT. The investments range from $640 to more than $1,000,000 in the areas outlined in the Comprehensive Community Plan, Community Needs and Priorities, the EDT Distribution Guidelines, and the SNGRDC Guiding Principles.
Over the past 2 months the EDT has been working diligently to review, score and prioritize the applications; each Trustee has spent in excess of 80 hours completing this process. The EDT received 46 applications with a total ask of over $8.8 Million. “The Economic Development Trust, along with the Advisory Committee, are pleased to have had the opportunity to invest in a variety of community driven projects which will serve to build our strength as Haudenosaunee along the Grand River” said Jill Hill, Chair of the Economic Development Trust. Forty- two percent of successful applicants fall under Grassroots application with a total of $72, 275.82 invested in programs and initiatives. The remaining fifty-eight percent of successful applicants fall under General applications with a total of $3,464,982.13 invested into the community organizations.

About the Economic Development Trust
The Economic Development Trust (EDT) is the mechanism in which profits generated by Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) will be invested into the Six Nations Community for the benefit of its members. This model of distribution was a direct result of the 2011 community engagement study “We Gather Our Voices”. The EDT will continue to invest in the Six Nations Community in future years through yearly distributions made possible by Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation.
