SIX NATIONS OF THE GRAND RIVER, ON – March 02 2021 – Due to a relatively low response rate the commentary period for the Oneida Energy Storage Project (OES Project) has been extended until March 19, 2021. Comments can be submitted online via the SN Future website (www.snfuture.com/projects/oneida-energy-storage/).

OES project details were released to the public on January 12, 2021 with a public commentary period of January 25 – February 25. Throughout the commentary period 10 live webinars were hosted, radio interviews were aired, ads were placed in local papers, posters were distributed around the community, two mail outs were completed and targeted email campaigns took place.

“If you support the project we want to hear why, if you oppose the project we also want to hear why,” said Matt Jamieson, President/CEO of SNGRDC. “Comments received during investment review are extremely important in shaping how the project rolls out, if at all. We do our best to bring the project details to the people for comment. We are hopeful this extension will allow additional time for our community to provide feedback.”

The OES project is a 250 Megawatt / 1000 Megawatt-hour battery storage facility that will provide important grid balancing services which includes the storage of renewable energy during off-peak periods and releasing when energy demand is at its peak. OES also has significant environmental benefits with a projected reduction of 4.1 million tonnes of greenhouse gases over the life of the project. The project can be constructed at no cost to Ontario ratepayers, it will create employment and training opportunities for Six Nations members, and will generate a long-term community revenue stream of $20M+ over the life of the project.
