Apolitical

Apolitical means having no interest, involvement or aversion to politics or political affairs.

Iroquois

Iroquois is a group of nations also know as the Haudenosaunee or “people of the longhouse,” which include the Mohawk, Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga, Seneca and the Tuscarora peoples. Six Nations is an Iroquois/Haudenosaunee reserve with a unique history, values, rights and responsibilities from other First Nations’ in Canada such as Cree, Ojibwa, Mi’kmaq, Inuit, Metis, etc.

Beneficiary

All Six Nations Members are beneficiaries of the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC). All profits generated by SNGRDC will be distributed to the Six Nations Community collectively via the Economic Development Trust (EDT) or through capital investment in infrastructure, projects or initiatives.

Lease payments

A lease provides provision regarding the responsibilities and rights of the lessee and lessor. In general, by paying the negotiated fee to the lessor (owner), the lessee (tenant) has possession and use of the leased property, to the exclusion of the lessor.

Community Benefit Agreement

Community Benefit Agreement is a contract signed by SNGRDC and a real estate developer which requires the developer to provide specific amenities and/or mitigations to the Six Nations community for development on lands in interest to Six Nations.

Net-Free Cash Flow

Net-Free Cash Flow Is the amount of revenue the Corporation has available after expenditures, current capital expenses, current portion of long term debt, current portion of future dividends is subtracted from the operating Cash Flow the corporation took in for the year.

Net Free Cash Flow (NFCF) = (Operating Cash Flow– Capital Expenditures)

Equity Ownership

Equity Ownership is the amount of shares issued to SNGRDC for their contribution to the project. The portion of revenues and/or expenses received from a project is based on the amount of equity you own in the project.

Royalty Payment

Royalty Payment is a payment made by one party to another who owns a particular asset for the right to ongoing use of that asset. Royalties are typically agreed upon as a percentage of gross or net revenues derived from the use of an asset.

Governance

Governance is how a company, organization or corporation is governed. Governance requires the establishment of policies and the continued oversight of the entity by a governing body.

Shareholder

Shareholder in a standard corporation the shareholder is a person, company or other institution that owns at lease one share of a company’s/corporation’s stock. Shareholders are the owners of the company and reap the benefits of the company’s successes. At SNGRDC this power has been relinquished by the Shareholder (SNGREC) to the Economic Development Trust.

Haudenosaunee Confederacy

Haudenosaunee Confederacy or Iroquois Confederacy is comprised of the Mohawk, Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga, Seneca and the Tuscarora peoples. Together these nations form the Confederacy who would historically make decisions through consensus on matters that affected one another. The Haudenosaunee Confederacy was the governing body on Six Nations up until 1925 when a forced federal election replaced the Confederacy with the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council. Both the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council are operational which creates a unique political environment on Six Nations.

1784 Haldimand Treaty/Proclamation

1784 Haldimand Treaty/Proclamation authorized Six Nations to possess all of the land six miles on each side of the Grand River from its mouth to its source (to be held in trust by the Crown) comprising a total of approximately 950,000 acres. The lands were granted in partial recognition of the loss sustained by Six Nations of millions of acres of land in the aftermath of their alliance with the British Crown during the American Revolutionary War.
