SIX NATIONS OF THE GRAND RIVER, ON –November 6, 2018 – Six Nations Bingo has been hosting annual toy bingo fundraisers for local elementary schools for nearly two decades. Instead of cash prizes, customers play for toys and electronics. For most schools, this is their primary fundraiser for the year. This year, two of seven schools agreed to move their annual event next door to the Gathering Place by the Grand Event Center (GPG). As an incentive to move locations, schools were offered additional support from Six Nations Bingo, including an initial $2500 donation, along with a “Stuff the Bus” supply drive which will take place in August 2019. This fundraiser will invite patrons of Six Nations Bingo, along with business partners, to fill a bus with school supplies, such as paper, pens, backpacks and/or running shoes.

This year’s move to GPG has proven successful as the first host school, Kawenni::io, was able to surpass its last year fundraising total ($17,587.70) by 8%, raising a grand total of $19,097.25 (includes the $2500 donation from Six Nations Bingo). “Moving toy bingos to the Gathering Place benefits the whole community. As Six Nations Bingo is able to assist the schools to hit their fundraising goal and continue regular business operations for the day,” said John Heathers, SNGRDC’s Director of Gaming. Meaning, Six Nations Bingo can generate additional revenue for the community, by maintaining its regular schedule on one of its busiest days of the week.

“With 40% of all annual Bingo profits being donated to the Six Nations Sponsorship Program and the remaining 60% of profits flowing through the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC)-which ultimately funds annual distributions to the Economic Development Trust (EDT), this is a real win for the whole community.” Since SNGRDC was formed in 2015, Six Nations Bingo has contributed approx. $2M to the Sponsorship Program and SNGRDC has contributed over $9.4M to the EDT for the collective benefit of the Six Nations Community.
“Six Nations Bingo would like to thank all of the staff, students, and supporters of Kawenni:io Language School for attending the event and making it a huge success,” said Heathers. The annual toy bingo fundraisers rely on the support of the community to volunteer, donate prizes or come out and play with their friends and family.
