November 23, 2022, Six Nations – The Six Nations of the Grand River Economic Development Trust (EDT) is proud to announce the Community Investment Funds for 2023 have been allocated. This year, the EDT received eight applications with a total ask of $2,589,300.95. Following individual and group scoring, as well as shortlist presentations, the Board of Trustees approved three grassroots and two general applications for community investment. Together these five organizations will receive $1,992,545.95 to invest in the collective benefit of the Six Nations of the Grand River. All approved EDT applications must collectively benefit the Six Nations community and align with the Trust Indenture, Community Plan, Community Needs & Priorities and the EDT Investment Guidelines.

The following seven projects have been approved for community investment in 2023:

Grassroot Recipients

  • Two Row on the Grand will receive $10,00.00 to assist with Cultural Teachings & Registration Fees for serving members.
  • Seneca Longhouse will receive $7,545.95 to upgrade an outdated electrical panel and installation of electric heaters in the dining hall.
  • Friends of Stump Hall will receive $15,000.00 to purchase ground penetrating radar equipment to locate unmarked graves so they can move ahead with their expansion plans.

General Recipients

  • Six Nations Public Works will receive $1,600,000.00 for a Watermain Extension on Cayuga Road between 3rd and 4th
  • Six Nations Language Commission will receive $360,000.00 to assist with their critical mass of bilingual speakers for the language programs they currently offer.

The Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) distributes surplus profits annually through the EDT and welcomes new and returning applicants to inquire about funding in September. These profits are a result of SNGRDC’s operations located both on and off reserve, including but not limited to, Six Nations Bingo, A6N Utilities, Chiefswood Park, along with various investments in the renewable energy industry.

In 2015, the SNGRDC separated from Elected Council and in 2016 formed the EDT which has since invested over $16.6 Million to date. A complete list of all current and past recipients is available at www.sixnationsedt.ca/recipients/.
