Surplus profits from Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation to support six local volunteer groups and projects

Ohsweken, ON, July 28, 2025 – The Six Nations of the Grand River Economic Development Trust (EDT) has approved $90,000 in community investment to support the work of six local volunteer organizations and initiatives on Six Nations throughout 2025. The following applicants were approved for funding at a meeting of the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC)’s Economic Development Trust Committee on July 2, 2025.

  • The I.L. Thomas Home & School Association will receive $15,000 for improvements to their walking/running track
  • The Dylan Isaacs Memorial Basketball Tournament Committee will receive $15,000 for their Youth Skills Camp
  • The Grand River Powwow Committee will receive $15,000 for the 2025 Grand River Champion of Champions Powwow
  • Skaronhyase’ko:wa Tsyohterakentko:wa Tsi Yontaweya’tahkwa – The Everlasting Tree School will receive $15,000 for their Tyonnhehkwen Onkwaya’takehnhátshera Program (Nutrition Program)
  • Six Nations Minor Lacrosse will receive $15,000 for their ‘Celebrating the Creator’s Game’ project
  • Oliver M. Smith Elementary School will receive $15,000 to revitalize their baseball diamond

“The Trust is proud to support these community-led projects. Each initiative strengthens our community through enrichment of our culture, youth, wellness, and education,” said Rachel Martin, Chair of the Economic Development Trust Committee. “Nya:weh to all the volunteers in our community working to make a difference.”

The EDT is funded by the surplus profits of SNGRDC’s business operations, including investments in renewable energy infrastructure. Applicants must demonstrate a financial need and showcase how their project aligns with the Six Nations Community Plan.
