Following the May 2024 announcement of three Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) battery storage projects being awarded Independent Electricity Systems Operator (IESO) contracts, SNGRDC and its partner, Boralex Inc, will be conducting a Community Investment Review for the Oxford Battery Energy Storage Project (Oxford Project).

The Oxford Project will be located in the Township of South-West Oxford. With a total of 125 megawatts (MW), this energy storage facility is designed to efficiently store and seamlessly inject energy into the grid as required.

This project is expected to result in numerous benefits to the Six Nations community over its 20-year lifespan, including a $1 million annual yield, investments in post-secondary education, and more. The Oxford Project will result in a reduction of 1.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions, which is equivalent cutting emissions from 350,000 vehicles driven for a year. The project’s 125MW capacity will assist in providing electricity for approximately 19,000 homes each year.

“The Oxford Project represents another successful venture between SNGRDC and Boralex Inc., and I am pleased to be collaborating with them again on a valuable addition to our clean energy portfolio,” said Matt Jamieson, President and CEO of SNGRDC. “This technology will help reduce energy waste in Ontario and make the energy grid more efficient. SNGRDC remains committed to preserving a clean environment for the coming generations, and these projects will help us get closer to that goal.”

The Six Nations community is invited to attend information sessions to learn more and to ask questions. SNGRDC has acquired A.L.L Professional Services to moderate and support the Investment Review Sessions. These sessions will take place on the following dates in the SNGRDC boardroom (2498 Chiefswood Road, Ohsweken):

• Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm
